Welcome to Edison Language Academy—a joyful, vibrant community where children grow as thinkers, learners, and compassionate global citizens. As a proud public school within the Santa Monica–Malibu Unified School District, Edison has been a school of choice for families since 1986, serving approximately 400 students in TK through 5th grade.

For nearly four decades, our full 90–10 dual-immersion program in English and Spanish has helped students develop the confidence and skills to thrive in two languages. Our mission is guided by three core goals:

• Bilingualism and Biliteracy: Students learn to listen, speak, read, and write in English and Spanish at an academic level.
• High Academic Achievement: Every child is supported and challenged to excel across all content areas.
• Sociocultural Competence: Students deepen pride in their own identity, learn about others, and take action for equity, kindness, and justice.

At Edison, learning another language is seen as an enrichment and an expansion of a child’s world. Our students add a second language without losing their first, gaining a deep respect for both—and for the diverse cultures represented in our community. Classrooms are alive with authentic daily communication, collaboration, and curiosity, creating an environment where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to learn.

Our teachers are highly trained experts in language development and committed to nurturing the success of each student. Year after year, Edison students demonstrate high academic achievement and show that bilingual education prepares children not only for school - it prepares them for college, careers, and active global citizenship

We are also the proud beginning of a PreK–12 Dual Immersion Pathway in SMMUSD. Students who continue through middle and high school can meet university language requirements, take Advanced Placement Spanish, and earn the California State Seal of Biliteracy.
